This September all Year 7 students are taking part in the Accelerated Reader program.

With Accelerated Reader LRC staff and English teachers create a customised reading program to meet the needs of every individual student. Staff help students select books that are difficult enough to keep them challenged, but not too difficult to cause frustration.

In addition, Accelerated Reader helps staff monitor students’ vocabulary growth, literacy skills development and reading skills.

How it works

The student reads a book of their choice from the school LRC, for which is there is an Accelerated Reader quiz. Once the student has read the book, they take a quick computer-based quiz. The quizzes are fun and encourage motivation and enjoyment. The program gives instant feedback by automatically printing out a report showing how well the student has performed. LRC staff, English teachers and form tutors have an opportunity to guide the student’s reading by using the reports and ensuring that the student achieves success and is therefore motivated to read more.
