Art and Design gives pupils the chance to express themselves in creative ways. It is exciting, fun and thought-provoking. At Childwall Sports College we ensure that Art lessons meet the needs of every child by offering a wide range of experiences such as:

  • Printmaking
  • Textiles
  • Photography and Digital Manipulation
  • Sculpture
  • 3D design
  • Collage
  • Drawing and Painting which are fundamentally important.

Students have the chance to study all these areas of the subject using specialist equipment in a well-resourced department. We are very proud of achieving Artsmark Gold this year and this is testament to the amount of importance we give to the Arts in our school.

At Key Stage 3 students follow a wide range of projects aimed at developing their knowledge and skills though innovative projects based upon:

  • Natural Forms
  • Colour
  • Portaits and the Figure
  • Robots and Mechanical Objects
  • The Art of Worldwide Cultures
  • Various Art movements such as Abstraction, Pop Art and Cubism

At Key Stage 4 and 5 students follow the AQA specification for GCSE and A-Level Art and Design, building up portfolios of work and extending their appreciation of Contextual Studies from Key Stage 3. Our results over the past three years have risen greatly with the numbers of students achieving A*/A grades at an all time high.

Trips to galleries and places of artistic interest are organised for students in each Key Stage and A-level students visit London galleries on a residential each year. We also host artist residencies throughout the year.

Many of our students go on to Foundation and Degree courses across the country, studying in the areas of Fine Art, Photography, Textiles and 3-dimensional Design to name a few. This has led to employment in many creative industries including television.

The Art department holds clubs at lunchtime and after school and we host holiday activities to extend and enrich learning. There is something for every child to take part in and enjoy!
