This has been another successful year for the Childwall Duke of Edinburgh Award. At 'Bronze' level 30 boys and girls completed a very demanding expedition. The walk was over 15 miles in the Clwydian hills. The candidates conducted themselves extremely well in very demanding conditions. The successful candidates must complete the final three sections of the award before the end of September.
The 23rd of June saw candidates from the 'Silver' level begin the three days of their 'expedition' phase. The 'Silver' expedition took place in the Rhinog Mountains- Southern Snowdonia- which is a very demanding wilderness area. This group is made up of both boys and girls from years 10. This expedition is a distance of 30 miles which must be completed over a period of three days. As per usual the rain poured down but the whole group managed extremely well, over a very difficult route.
The candidates had to remain totally self sufficient eg carrying all of the equipment and food for the three days. The 'Silver' expedition requires the candidates to carry out two over night camps - one night being a 'wild camp' miles away from civilisation!
This year saw the school’s first group go through onto Gold, this is a fantastic achievement as it requires the candidates to be self sufficient for 4 days and walk 50 miles in mountainous areas, the group of 9 young men and women should commitment in all areas as they found this extremely gruelling. I wish them all best for the future in completing the award.

Well done to all at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
