Visit of David Lammy

Minister for Higher Education, David Lammy, visited our school on 14th January to see at first hand the work being done to encourage pupils to continue their studies at higher education institutions.

Mr Lammy spoke to the Leadership team, followed by discussions with staff involved in the schools Aimhigher programme. Mr Lammy also met representatives from the local Aimhigher partnership including a representative from Liverpool University, Deonne Hill.
David Lammy took part in a Learner Voice Panel, where pupils were able to highlight how their aspirations have been raised through the work of the school and Aimhigher, and the support that had been provided to help them apply successfully for places at university.

Mr Lammy also met ex-students from Childwall Sports College who have returned to work at the school in a range of settings including teaching and administration.
Dewi Philips, Head teacher at Childwall Sports College commented on the visit:
"We were thrilled to be visited by David Lammy. He was most complimentary about the School's work especially with regard to providing opportunities for our students to go on to Higher Education."

David Lammy said:

"I'm delighted to be visiting Childwall to see how the school is working to promote the benefits higher education can bring to all its pupils, regardless of their background."
"Childwall is a school with energy, ambition and high aspirations for its students. I know the staff provide outstanding care and support for all their pupils and are committed to the belief that a pupil's background is never a factor in whether or not they are able to go to university."

"All students, no matter where they live or how much money their family has, should have the opportunity to discover the vast range of opportunities that are available through higher education."
