On Wednesday 8th October Dave Duckett, who works for the RSPCA, visited the LRC along with a variety of creepy crawlies from his own collection. Among others Dave showed off a giant African land snail, a hissing cockroach, a South American horned frog, three snakes (a Royal Python, a Corn Snake and a Hog Nosed Snake) and a Chilean Rose Tarantula.
He spent the day thoroughly entertaining our Year 8 pupils, and staff, in 3 separate sessions, educating them about how the animals lived, their different habitats and eating habits. This was a wonderful opportunity for many of our pupils to see these exotic animals up close and personal, and despite a few hair raising moments when one or two of the creatures looked to be making a bid for freedom, the event went down very well.
