On the 26th June 2008, the entire science department took on 11 different primary schools, with a total of 365 pupils. The pupils we divided into two groups, with half spending time with PE staff and the other half with Science. They then swapped half way through to make sure all pupils had a go at all activities!
Every teacher in science led a session with the primary pupils, including parachutes, burning food, dissecting hearts, pastel drawings, acids and alkalis, burning metal salts and playing with static. It was an incredible day and only a few tears were shed when the pupils from Phoenix and St Michaels found out where Mr Crispin got the hearts from! Though it didn’t hold them back – as soon as the gloves came round, they all got stuck in.
This day would not have been possible without the help from our current Year 9 pupils. They made sure all pupils went to the correct session, received their free gifts and made it to the busses at the end of the day. They also didn’t mind taking part in the experiments!
