Childwall Creative Arts Department has hosted a number of events, clubs and school trips over the past academic year. Our department will celebrate the successes we have had and congratulate a select few pupils who are lucky enough to be nominated for our awards evening on Friday 9th July.
September sees a new start for our year 7 students and with many events planned during the new term it is sure to be another successful year!
Here’s a look at what you could be doing within our Creative Arts Department!
Since September Pupils have been working hard with Miss Cooke to improve its dance status within the school. In November 2009, Pupils took part in a workshop with Rambert Dance Company. Pupils were fantastic in their ability to adapt to a different style. They then were able to develop this style into a workshop with National Dance Company of Wales, and pupils were then able to see them perform live at the Liverpool Playhouse. It was amazing for the pupils to see some of the work they had learnt performed by the professional company.
Drama at Childwall continues to create unique opportunities for our students, As well as having the opportunity to take part in three productions hosted by the school, 'Have You Seen Rudolph', 'Chill Wall' and 'Liverpool - A Celebration in Drama, Dance and Music' some of our gifted and talented pupils have had the chance to appear on the professional stage. In the Autumn term we had pupils taking part in 'Kes' at the Playhouse, ‘'Our Day Out' at the Royal Court and in July fifteen students performed a devised piece of drama at the Royal Court Theatre as part of the theatre's ‘Access All Areas’ event. Through our contacts with the theatres in Liverpool and our attendance at the teachers' meetings there will be lots more opportunities for our students to enjoy in the future!
Childwall Art department have enjoyed successful GCSE and A’ Level results year on year. Many of our students attend our afterschool and lunchtime clubs as well as school trips to galleries and museums. Since September a number of workshops and artists in residence have been arranged for our gifted and talented pupils to enhance their skills and quench their thirst for Art! Pupils joining us in September will have the opportunity to work with outside groups such as the Arts Crafts Council, and many more in the near future!
Music students have been involved in many activities over the past few months they have included a visit to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, taking part in a concert based upon science and technology; they have also taken part in music workshops with the Welsh National Opera. Some students have passed auditions for external music schools and have performed in many concerts across the northwest including The Liverpool Echo Carol Concert and a premier performance of David Bedford’s ‘The wreck of the titanic’.
