On the 2nd December 2010, 60 year 8 and 9 pupils became forensic scientists for the day to investigate a fictitious attack on a male victim in Greenbank Park.
Pupils learned new techniques used in crime scene investigation such as fingerprint and footprint dusting, 3D casting of footprints and tyre marks as well as hair collection and identification, blood identification and footprint identification.
Pupils worked in teams to learn the techniques and then applied their new knowledge to find as much evidence at the crime scene as possible to identify the attacker. This involved collection and analysis of evidence as well as testimonial evidence provided in folders which pupils had to read through and decide which evidence was relevant to their investigation. Finally pupils presented their findings to each other to discover the identity of the attacker.
Pupils had an excellent day and conducted themselves exceptionally gaining new techniques, skills and knowledge in the process.
Many thanks to Christine Alecock, James Kerfoot and the Science department for their support in the planning of the day.
