Reveal Theatre Company came into the school as part of the Capital of Culture celebrations to present their latest play. All Sixth Form students were invited to the general workshops and play. As a reward for attitude and effort, selected students from Year 11 were also invited to the play.
The play, Am I Not a Man and a Brother charts the historical and contemporary roots to slavery. The play is based on interviews from African Caribbean groups and other primary source material. Sixth Form students from the Drama Department worked with the actors in a drama workshop which examined the concept of documentary drama and Travel and Tourism students took part in workshops which examined the role of leisure and tourism organisations, such as the Liverpool’s International Slavery Museum, in educating people about issues such as slavery and its many legacies today. The workshops also served as background knowledge for their General Studies course.
The theatre company praised our students for their positive contributions in the workshops and said that the Childwall audience was their best yet. They were especially impressed by some insightful questioning from our Sixth Form History students!
