Recently the well known Merseyside Sculptor, Paul Bearman, spent some considerable time working with GCSE Art students at Childwall Sports College to produce a piece of work on the human figure with special reference to the school’s recently opened Dance Studio and Fitness Suite.
The group produced a wide variety of pieces including small scale figures designed to capture the feel of Dance movement. Paul Bearman then returned to his studio and worked on the students’ figures to create a large scale sculpture which was formally opened at a recent ceremony involving not only the Sculptor himself but some of the students involved in the design of the sculpture.
The work is entitled ‘Salsa’ and is approximately 5m tall. This is a very imposing sculpture which has been very favourably commented upon by staff, students and visitors to Childwall Sports College. The Year 11 students photographed at the official opening of the sculpture are Dean Munnerley, Stephen Morgan and Ashleigh Cummings.
