17th November 2009
To launch a new academic year of provision for our more able pupils, the Creative Arts Faculty, led by Mrs Earle (Head of Faculty), held an important parents’ evening for all pupils who had been identified as talented in one or more of the Arts.
Over 150 parents attended the evening with their children from years 7 to 13!
After a fabulous Dance piece led by Ms Cooke, there was an introduction which explained the aims of the Faculty – to provide pupils with as many high quality opportunities to experience the Arts fully. Later parents, pupils and teachers completed Individual Education Plans to set out targets to extend the learning of G&T pupils in Art, Drama, Music and Media Studies.
Parental questionnaires completed on the night said that this sort of evening was valued by parents and their children and they wanted this to be a regular occurrence. Children liked setting themselves targets to improve even further and when asked about how they felt being identified as ‘more able’ they said:
Special thanks go out to Ms Horrocks and Mr Tyrer (KS Co-ordinators for Creative Arts) and the rest of the Faculty who were all available on the night.
Mr Gibbons (Art Technician) was superhero of the hour when he not only operated lights and sound but also managed to fix the backlit screen which hadn’t worked for weeks!! Thanks Mr Gibbo!!
