Religious Education - Key Stage 3

Personal development is a vital part of the Key stage 3 curriculum and RE has a distinctive contribution to make in this area.

Religious Education in Childwall School encourages pupils to participate through discussion, debate, and group work.

The pupils enjoy exploring beliefs and practices gaining satisfaction from engaging with issues of meaning and value.

RE helps prepare pupils to become responsible citizens by raising issues of local, national and global concerns.

Key Stage 4

Many people think that RE is about saying prayers and learning about churches but that’s where they’d be wrong.

This course examines a wide variety of moral issues from abortion to racism. As well as looking at religious perspectives this course gives pupils the opportunity to compare these ideas with their own opinions. Many people think that religious education will be of no use in their daily lives but that‘s not true. Imagine a colleague was taking random days off and going home early on a Friday, would you think that he was slacking, or that he might be Jewish and observing his religion?

Religious Education gives the opportunity to understand those different faiths and cultures. RE opens a wide variety of career opportunities, particularly in the caring and law profession. It is also a good basis for various AS level and degree courses as well as vocational training, in areas such as teaching or nursing.
