Learning Resource Centre

The Learning Resource Centre aims to provide an environment to support teaching and learning, ensuring all students have the skills to locate and use information relevant to their needs. The LRC is a place for homework, research, revision, quiet study and reading.

The Learning Resource Centre is open Monday to Friday from 7.45am until 4.00pm.

Our After Hours Clubs run before school Early Morning (7.45am - 8.20am) and After School home work only (3.00pm - 4.00pm) and are open to all students.

Our lunchtime rota:

  • Monday Year 7
  • Tuesday Year 8
  • Wednesday Year 9
  • Thursday Year 10
  • Friday Year 11

New titles and recommended reads for this half term (Mon 5th - Fri 16th April)

A number of lessons and subject groups, such as Business Studies and P.E. are timetabled to gain access to the facilities in the LRC.

Other curriculum areas book time in the LRC allowing their class access to our wide range of resources to support teaching and learning, such as English and Humanites.

In the LRC you will find:

  • 55 networked computers with Microsoft Office, Careers information CD-ROMs and broadband Internet access
  • The library with over 9000 books – Fiction, Information and Reference
  • The Careers library with up to date information
  • University prospectus’ along with details of Open Days
  • Newspapers, journals and magazines

The main aims of the LRC are:

  • To encourage all students whatever their ability to become more competent in using the facilities.
  • To equip students with important lifelong learning skills.
  • To develop the concept of reading for pleasure.
  • To allow students to become confident in using the library, developing information retrieval skills and learning to appreciate literature.
  • To encourage students to develop an enquiring mind.
  • To encourage them to learn more about the world beyond their own personal experience.

Childwall is a Reading Connects School!

Reading Connects is a National Reading Campaign funded by the DfES and aims to promote reading for pleasure. Schools can join this free support network and receive a handbook with a wealth of ideas to promote reading in schools.
