Welcome to the PSHCE web page. PSHCE plays an important role in promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural and physical development of the pupils at Childwall School. All students at Childwall receive one period each week with their form teacher. We at Childwall believe that PSHCE helps pupils to lead confident, healthy and responsible lives as members of society.
Recently pupils from group 98 created a short film on anti-bullying. The film focused on storylines written by the pupils themselves and together with Ms Mutch they were filmed and edited into an excellent end product. This film has been used throughout the school to promote the website and is hopefully going to be featured on the SHARP system for schools across Liverpool to use. In particular, the acting performances from E. Gilbertson and L. Kennedy were to be applauded. Well done 98!
Several guest speakers are invited into Childwall to deliver various topics related to PSHCE.
Several pupils have also been working closely with student doctors from Liverpool University in first aid training.
As part of the Citizenship course in Years 10 and 11 (Key Stage 4) students at Childwall Sports College will study a variety of topics including Careers, Community Work, Social Services and Health Education.
The Health Education Programme gives students the opportunity to discuss in small groups issues such as relationships, pregnancy, abortion, contraception, responsibility of parenthood. These are set within a moral framework so that students can appreciate the importance of stable relationships and family life and so allow the students to acquire the necessary skills to make personal decisions.
Childwall Sports College aims to present the facts in a sensitive and balanced way so that students receive accurate information which they can discuss freely in class. Childwall Sports College believes that this is an important part of the curriculum for all students.
Further information is available from Miss M-L. Morgan, Assistant Headteacher.
Several of our students have now been specifically trained in the peer mentoring programme. The outcome involves pupils becoming more actively involved in their school community. The pupils selected help the New Year 7 intake by sharing with them their experience of starting secondary school. They help build their confidence amongst their peers.
We have a number of students at Childwall school trained as paired reading mentors. Paired reading is a reading activity where a learner and a skilled reader read together. This is a well known method of encouraging reading. It is a systematic but simple approach which aims to build confidence. Studies show that children involved in this programme on average make three times the normal progress in reading.
As part of the Personal, Social & Health Education course (PSHE) in Years 7, 8 and 9 (Key Stage 3) students at Childwall Sports College study a unit on Health Education. Students will have the opportunity to discuss many different issues with their Group Tutors.
