High Quality PE and sport always;

  • Enable all young people, whatever their circumstances or ability, to take part in and enjoy PE and sport.
  • Promote young people’s health, safety and well being.
  • Enable all young people to improve and achieve in line with their age and potential.

Making the most of PE lessons

Blocking lessons involves devoting all of the lessons over a period of weeks to one activity. For example, both PE lessons each week for a four-week period might be devoted to striking and fielding activities. This is a good way to improve pupils' progress because they:

Remember more of what they have learnt;

Practice specific skills more frequently.

It also helps pupils to remember which kit to bring. The most frequently asked question at the start of a PE lesson is: ‘What are we going to do today?’ Blocking lessons changes this to ‘Please can we get on with…?’

Curriculum life at Childwall

The PE Department runs 4 week activity blocks, covering Gymnastics, Dance, Striking/Fielding, Athletics and Invasion Games as required of the National Curriculum. As a sports college we have also engage students in a Health Related Fitness unit promoting young people’s health safety and well being. The curriculum map has been planned for educational and motivational facilitation, including the voice of pupils to make sure our young people enjoy and engage.
