AQA GCSE Graphics

Pupils practice skills in 2D and 3D modelling. This option includes a large element of drawing and graphical skills. Indusial processes are also covered.

Graphics has been designed to:

  • Introduce pupils to work related learning
  • Provide pupils with an overview of the sector
  • Give pupils the technical knowledge, skills and understanding associated with the subject at this level
  • Equip pupils with some of the skills they will need in the workplace of in further education or training

There is no prior learning required for this qualification.

Assessment The Specification consists of two units and is broken down as follows:

  • Coursework 60 % of total marks

Design and produce a design portfolio containing identification of a need, research and development of the pupils, ideas and much more.

Make a card model and then a detailed accurate model using a verity of modelling materials.

  • Materials and Processes 40 % of total marks

Pupils will learn about lots of graphical materials including new “smart” materials. Many processes and drawing techniques will introduced and pupils will build their graphical skills and ICT skills. Materials and processes are tested in examination set by AQA.

Progression

It lays an appropriate foundation for further study of Product Design or related subjects at GCE/VCE AS and ‘A’ levels.

What to expect

  • Pupils can expect to production of a design portfolio
  • Pupils can expect to make a number of items to develop skills
  • Pupils can expect to produce a major item
  • Pupils can expect to use both manual and CADCAM (computer aided design and computer aided manufacture)
  • Pupils can expect to understand some industrial production methods
  • Pupils can expect to understand about materials and processes
  • Pupils will also learn engineering drawing principles and techniques
