Technology - Product Design

Prodect Design is a newly introduced GCSE subject at Childwall Sports College. It is designed to combine all aspects of the current Design and Technology GCSE courses so that pupils can work to their strengths in each subject area in order to reach their full potential.

The course is made up of two parts

Coursework (60%)

The coursework consists of producing a design file which shows all ideas and process of design work in order to manufacture a working product.

Theory (40%)

The theory side of the subject involves pupils being taught about various materials and their properties. It also allows the pupils to research into designers - both traditional and contemporary - and use this as a stimulus to bein the coursework. All that is learned in the theory component of the GCSE is tested at the end of the course in a written exam.

Each of the two parts are structurally planned into the academic year in order to give pupils an enjoyable and mangeable GCSE in which they can reflect on what they have been taught and develop into the young inventors and designers of the future.

This GCSE is perfect for those pupils who are torn between two or three choices in Design and Technology subjects!
