Our department provides an exciting and diverse learning environment for all pupils. Every pupil at KS3 has the opportunity to take part in textiles technology lessons. The topics covered are:
Pupils produce design ideas for their textiles projects and use ICT along with a variety of sewing techniques to produce high quality items. Our pupils are very proud of the items they produce and bring them home as gifts or to use themselves. Our department prides itself on the excellent standard of work produced and it’s assessment for learning techniques. Pupils are involved in their own target setting and levelling at the end of each unit of work.
Textiles is available for pupils to choose in KS4. This subject consists of practical work, coursework and a written examination. Pupils develop their textiles skills by producing a pinafore dress, a book sack and a range of other small textiles products. They gain experience in electronic machining and CAD/CAM. They develop a portfolio of designs in order to produce one main product for their GCSE coursework. Pupils have the opportunity to be original and innovative and this subject can lead to a variety of pathways in the textiles and fashion industry.
This department has a variety of external links which help increase pupils awareness of the use of Textiles in industry. This department is very proud of its emphasis on sustainability and the environment with pupils often recycling fabrics when making their own products.
The level of achievement in this subject is excellent with 69% of pupils getting A* - C grades in their GCSE in 2008.
