Dear Parents and Carers

Outstanding and best ever GCSE and A Level results at Childwall Sports College.

Childwall Sports College is delighted to announce that in 2010 we achieved our best ever GCSE Results once again. We exceeded the very significant measure of 5 A-C including English and Mathematics by a massive 10%. We also exceeded our best ever results for Advanced Level with more students than ever achieving the highest grades i.e. to go on to study at university. There were a number of outstanding individual performances at both GCSE and A Level. Worthy of note was the performance of Sean Walsh in Year 13 who achieved 2 A* and 3 A’s at Advanced Level. Shaun is now studying medicine at Cambridge University.

As a result of the outstanding GCSE results we continue to have a highly vibrant Sixth Form with almost 300 students. More students than ever have returned to study in Year 12. This is partly due to the outstanding GCSE Results but also to the highly regarded arrangements with the Merseyside Tigers (previously Everton Tigers) Basketball Club. This has allowed Childwall Sports College to develop a high profile Basketball Academy. The Academy has attracted both boys and girls from across Merseyside. The Basketball Academy Squads play in National Leagues and hopes are high of a number of national trophies this year.

In addition, Childwall Sports College has signed a hugely important contract with The Everton Foundation which allows for staff from the Foundation to teach alongside academic staff at Childwall Sports College. The youngsters in our Sixth Form our therefore persuing both academic and sporting courses which are designed to allow the students to proceed to university to study Sports Science Degrees.

Health Centre

Parents will be aware that we have embarked upon a contractual arrangement with the Liverpool Primary Care Trust (PCT), Library Service to provide a state of the art Health Centre which will be completed by September 2011. The new Health Centre will incorporate GP surgeries, chemists, new Library Service and new Sixth Form accommodation for Childwall’s Post 16 Students. This iconic development at the Fiveways will further strengthen the schools position as a Specialist Sports College serving the community.

Specialisms

Parents will be aware that Childwall gained Specialist Sports College Status in 2004. Since that time examination results have continued to exceed target grades and in the period we have been able to extend our sporting facilities and to include P.E/ Sports Activities at weekends and holiday periods. We are now bidding for a Second Specialism in Science as a result of the excellent examination results in that faculty and to enhance further our Sport/Health Specialism. Our application for a Second Specialism will be heard during the Autumn Term 2010 and we are extremely ambitious that a favourable result will be achieved.
